This sequel follows the same structure as the first book, but it adds enough fresh touches to keep things entertaining. It kicks off with an intriguing prologue, and the short chapters paired with McFadden’s simple yet immersive writing made the story easy to race through. Where it fell short for me was in the character and story depth. I never quite connected with Millie, as her messy personal and work life, combined with no real character growth, made her more annoying than compelling. The supporting characters don’t fare much better and simply seemed one-dimensional. However, just when the pacing began to drag because of Millie’s repetitive inner monologues, a major twist landed, and the cascade of reveals that followed made the final stretch exciting. Even though I saw some parts coming, the payoff was still satisfying.
