Just JJ’s MY SISTER, THE SERIAL KILLER by Oyinkan Braithwaite

This book captures the dysfunctional relationship a nurse (Korede) has with her younger sister (Ayoola) who is a serial killer. Now, although this sounds fairly dark and unsettling, Korede’s morbidly funny narrative makes this book surprising entertaining. In fact, the satirical nature of her narrative completely changes the tone of the book from a thriller into an amusing beach read.

MEXICAN GOTHIC by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

I cannot talk about this book without first mentioning the absolutely BEAU-TI-FUL cover that adorns it! I am not ashamed to say that this book was definitely one that I judged by its cover. Seriously, on the computer this cover looks really pretty and easy on the eye, but it is even better in real life! I may or may not have spent the first five minutes after I this book arrived, stroking and staring at the cover. If you have never done this to a book, then you are just weird!

THE PRIORY OF THE ORANGE TREE by Samantha Shannon

Although this book is not the biggest I have ever read, I can’t help but feel proud of myself for finishing this gigantic 830 paged beauty! Despite the high ratings and attention this book received, I was not completely sold by its premise before I started reading it. So colour me surprised, when I found myself completely enthralled just a few pages into this book.
