As someone who was first introduced to Michael Todd through his ‘Relationship Goals’ sermon series, I was really excited when ‘Relationship Goals‘ the book was announced. I knew I had to get my hands on the book to revisit the contents of the series.

Sure enough, Mike Todd does not disappoint! His use of a simplistic writing style creates this casual and conversational tone that is representative of his personality. I laughed, reflected and gained new insights at various parts of this book, just as I would when listening to one of his sermons.

It doesn’t matter if your current status is single, married, dating, divorced, courting, looking, waiting, thirsty, stalker, player, or it’s complicated

Mike Todd does a great job of breaking down his points to the most basic level so his writing can be understood by a diverse range of people. He also uses various modern examples and references to make his words relevant to our lives today.

While this approach makes the contents of this book very engaging and informal, it also makes it far too elementary. Very little is done to address the complex nature of relationships or the difficulties people may have to consider. Instead, there is a load of generic content that is often heard from churches – but with a Mike Todd spin on it. That being said, there is still lots of good guidance and advice for relationships which you can never hear too often.

The best human relationships flow out of a relationship with God

One little thing that did bother me more than it should is that the pictures are all in black and white. I know this is not particularly important to the book as a whole, but seriously, black and white photos?! Why?? Colour pictures are always better!

Ultimately, ‘Relationship Goals‘ is a short and simple book that is very relatable and easy to read. Although it is not as in-depth as I expected, I still enjoyed reading it and even learnt a few new things!
