OCTOBER 2022 Monthly Spotlight

October 2022

Is it just me, or did winter kick summer to the curb, then begin wrestling autumn for dominance?! Thankfully, we have some hot new releases to warm up the shorter, colder days here in the UK. Here are a few that caught my eye:

Just JJ’s top pick:

Jackal

Title: Jackal

Author: Erin E. Adams

Genre: Horror, Mystery

First impression: As a complete horror wimp, there is no way I will be reading this with the light off – especially as this one hits a little close to home!

Liz Rocher does not have fond memories of her childhood in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Now reluctantly returning for her best friend’s wedding, Liz is prepared for many things but not the disappearance of her friend’s daughter, Caroline. In the frantic search that follows, Liz notices a pattern. It turns out black girls in the town have been going missing for years! To find Caroline and end these sinister disappearances, Liz must confront the darkness in her past and town, which proves to be bloody difficult…

Honourable mentions:

  • If You Could See the Sun by Ann Liang (Fantasy)
  • Night of the Raven, Dawn of the Dove by Rati Mehrotra (Fantasy)
  • Strike the Zither by Joan He (Fantasy)
