As the weather warms up (hopefully!) and things return back to some semblance of reality,  here are some new books coming out this month that you can enjoy on the go or in the comfort of your home:

Our top pick:

The Other Black Girl

Title: The Other Black Girl

Author: Zakiya Dalila Harris

Genre: Thriller; Mystery

First impressions: We can definitely relate to that feeling when you see another black person in a highly white space…

Nella Rogers is fed up; fed up with the isolation and microaggressions, that come with being the only black employee at Wagner Books. So of course she is thrilled, when Hazel, another black woman starts working in the cubicle besides her. And yet… following a series of uncomfortable events Hazel is elevated to Office Darling and Nella begins to receive hostile notes. Could these messages be from Hazel or is something else behind these sinister messages?

Just JJ’s top pick:

The Wolf and the Woodsman

Title: The Wolf and the Woodsman

Author: Ava Reid

Genre: Fantasy; Historical

First impression: This book reminds me of ‘The Gilded Ones‘ but with more gore, politics and romance. I’M IN!!

Due to her pagan heritage, Évike is gladly surrendered by her fellow villagers to soldiers of the Holy Order of Woodsmen for their king’s blood sacrifice. When monsters attack the travelling troupe, Évike and a certain one-eyed captain are the only ones that survive. Forced to rely on each other, they soon form an unlikely alliance – but trust can easily turn to betrayal…
