She Who Became the Sun

First impression: I am real easy to please… I see a fantasy book with hints of a bad-ass female lead. I get said book!

The year is 1345; the country, China. The Zhu family’s son, Zhu Chongba, is given a fate of greatness. On the other hand, his clever older sister receives, the fate of nothingness. When a bandit attack leaves both children orphaned, Zhu Chongba falls into the depths of despair and dies. Armed with nothing but her desire to survive, the girl chooses to take on her brother’s identity. Only time will tell if she has what it takes to claim his abandoned greatness.

Title: The Stranger in the Mirror

Genre: Mystery, Thriller

First impression: I can wait to find out how Liv ties everything together!

Addison is found injured by the side of the road and is rescued by a “kind stranger”. She is due to get married but her memory is yet to return. With no recollection of how she ended up injured, she can’t shake the feeling it was for a bad reason… Julian has no idea what happened to his loving wife Cassandra, who seems to have disappeared out the blue. Surely she would not simply walk out on their marriage and kids. Could it be that Cassandra and Alison are the same person? Is it a kidnapping or a case of mistaken identity?

Honourable mentions:

  • The final girl support group by Grady Hendrix (Horror)
  • Choose me by Tess Gerristen, Gary Braver (Mystery)
