April 2021 Featured Image

The long Easter bank holidays signal the transition from winter to spring. As we gear up for more outdoor walks, and hopefully more sunshine, check out the new releases for this month which we would love to read while lounging in the garden:

Our top pick:

Geiger

Title: Geiger

Author: Gustaf Skördeman

Genre: Thriller; Mystery

First impressions: Can’t wait to see how this deep and complex plot unravels!

Just one word – Geiger – is enough to drive Agneta to kill her husband and disappear after waving off her grandchildren. What does it mean? And why did it cause a murder to be committed? Sara Nowak may be determined to answer these questions, but she’s unware that this is just the first piece of a puzzle started fifty years ago.

Just JJ’s top picks:

Dial A for Aunties

Title: Dial A for Aunties

Author: Jesse Q. Sutanto

Genre: Romance; Contemporary

First impression: This book is giving ‘My sister the serial killer’ vibes and I’m here for it!

Got a dead body to get rid off? Why not call in a few meddlesome aunties! Or maybe hold off on that call for a second… Meddelin Chan’s aunties have accidentally shipped her blind date’s body to a wedding at an island resort on the Californian coastline. And because things cannot get any worse, Meddy’s greatest college love and biggest heartbreak is around to witness the wedding mayhem. Now, there are only three things for Meddy to do: (i) escape murder charges, (ii) charm her ex back into her life, and (iii) pull of a stunning wedding.

Honourable mention:

  • Pride and Premeditation by Tirzah Price (Mystery)

Simply Esther’s top picks:

Mother May I

Title: Mother May I

Author: Joshilyn Jackson

Genre: Thriller; Mystery

First impression: Why is it that when things go wrong, they go disastrously wrong?

Although Bree Gabbat grew up poor in Georgia, she rejected her mother’s negative outlook on life and developed a “dream” life by marrying into wealth. All seems well until she wakes up one day to a witch in her window. She shakes it off as nothing happens until later that day she sees the same woman at her daughters’ private school. When her son goes missing, with a note left in his place, the mysterious woman makes contact. What lengths will Bree go to protect her family and get her son back?

Honourable mentions:

  • Love in colour [Paperback] by Bolu Babalola (Romance)
  • The Good Sister by Sally Hepworth (Thriller)
