FAEBOUND by Saara El-Arifi

Even with a considerable amount of world-building information and several interesting concepts, the fantasy world seemed underdeveloped and shallow. I also struggled with the awkward writing style that told more than it showed and dragged down the narrative with information dumps about the world and characters.

INTO THE SUNKEN CITY by Dinesh Thiru

Despite being easy to follow and incorporating vivid descriptions that smoothly brought the world and events of this story to life, I did not find the simple writing style particularly engaging. I also struggled with the constant information dumps used to deliver the world-building, though the creative and believable world was impressive.

RUTHLESS VOWS by Rebecca Ross

Like the previous book, beautiful, enchanting prose and rich descriptions bring this sequel to life. However, there is lots of telling and little showing, especially for the world-building and characters. Besides this, the underdeveloped concepts and glaring holes in the magic system only made the world-building fall flat for me.

A conversational yet compelling writing style kept the character-driven storyline captivating and easy to follow. Besides this, media elements, such as texts, emails and Google searches, added a creative and modern element that made the writing even more engaging.

THE BLOOD TRIALS by N. E. Davenport

Despite some information dumps, I was utterly impressed by the detailed world that is established and infused with a creative mix of sci-fi and magic. Besides this, the casual writing style was easy to follow and filled with sufficient details and descriptions to bring the characters and story to life.
