February, the month where love is in the air! Join us in sharing our love for books by checking out the new books coming out this month that we would read straight away if we could.
Our pick:
Title: The Echo Wife
Author: Sarah Gailey
Genre: Science Fiction; Thriller
Our thoughts: Whatchu not ‘gon do is … cheat on me with me!
Did someone ask for a telenovela in a book format? You would think a cheating husband is bad enough. But what if he was cheating with a genetically cloned replica of his wife? What if that clone was made by his wife? And because even more drama is needed, that cheating bastard is now dead, leaving both his wife and her clone to face the music and clean us his mess. Grab you popcorn, grab your blanket and let the drama unfold.
Honourable mention:
- Open Water by Caleb Azumah Nelson (Romance)
Just JJ’s pick:
Title: The Gilded Ones
Author: Namina Forna
Genre: Fantasy; Young Adult
Our thoughts: With words such as “West African-inspired”, “feminist”, “fantasy” and “warriors”, how could I say no to this?
In a world where ‘pure’ women bleed red and ‘impure’ bleed gold, Deka wants nothing more than for her blood to run red so she can finally gain the acceptance of her village. When her blood runs gold, Deka is given the chance to evade a fate worse than death by becoming a warrior for the emperor. Only, Deka may have jumped out of the frying pan into the fire as everything is not as it seems…
Honourable mention:
- The Iron Raven by Julie Kagawa (Fantasy)
Simply Esther’s pick:
Title: Love Is a Revolution
Author: Renée Watson
Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Our thoughts: Black girl magic all the way!
Love is a revolution is not your traditional romance novel. It is an antithesis to modern society promoting self – love and representation for black, plus size girls. When Nala Robertson agrees to attend an open mic birthday party for a distant friend-of-a-friend-of-a-family member, she finds herself falling in love with the MC, Tye Brown and tells a couple of lies to impress him and create mutual interests. As she struggles to keep up with her lies, Nala will learn the hard work it takes to love not just others but also one’s self.
Honourable mentions:
- This Close to Okay by Leesa Cross-Smith (Contemporary)
- Love at First by Kate Clayborn (Romance)
- Finlay Donovan Is Killing It by Elle Cosimano (Thriller)
Feel free to let us know in the comments below if you are excited about any of the books mentioned above or any other books coming out this month.
