What a fun read! Roshani Chokshi masterfully weaves a gilded web of heists, puzzles and politics; all of which is set in a thin layer of true 1889 Paris history.

NEVERNIGHT by Jay Kristoff
I stopped reading this book just under halfway. Personally, I am surprised that I even got that far.
I really tried to finish this book mainly because I paid full price for a new copy from Amazon. Sadly, after avoiding eye contact with it for more than a week, I decided to call it quits and pick up another book.

THE WIFE BETWEEN US by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen
Now I understand why the blurb of this book is so vague and enigmatic – It thrives on mystery and twists. Knowing or guessing just one of the many twists could ruin the whole story. Greer and Sarah expertly weave a web of half-truths which lead readers to interpret the storyline inaccurately.

CHAIN OF GOLD by Cassandra Clare
While I have not read all Cassandra Clare’s books on the Shadowhunters world, I remember reading a few books from The Mortal Instruments series when I was in secondary school. For me, reading this book was a way to reconnect with my younger self to see if what I enjoy reading has changed.

HOUSE OF EARTH AND BLOOD by Sarah J. Maas
Props to Sarah J. Maas for trying something new, but… This was such a let down! The storyline starts off a little slow and generally remains that way for most of the book as the main characters face a series of dead ends. Things finally pick up towards the ends as we are hit with several twists that I really did not see coming.

AN AMERICAN MARRIAGE by Tayari Jones
On the surface, this book appears to be a book about race – A young, newly-wed black man is wrongfully convicted of a crime we know he did not commit (not a spoiler, the blurb gives this away) or so it seems.

CIRCE by Madeline Miller
Circe, pronounced – Sur-see; Not circ or circle! Now that I have gotten my pettiness out of the way, let’s talk about the book. I bought this book because of all the hype surrounding it and its long residence on the Goodreads’ Most Read This Week list. This book also had so many positive reviews, so of course I was really excited to start reading.
