As expected from this series, the writing style is simple yet rich – smoothly bringing the story to life. The fascinating world and magic are also nicely expanded through the grand political intrigue that takes place.

THE REVELATION OF LIGHT AND DARK by Sawyer Bennett
From the start, a palpable atmosphere of foreboding and mystery kept the story engaging. Equally intriguing was the concealed paranormal world gradually established throughout the story. However, I struggled slightly with the overly descriptive writing style, especially since there is lots of filler information, and much is told, not shown.

HOW TO KILL MEN AND GET AWAY WITH IT by Katy Brent
The casual, conversational writing style is paired with a satirical narrative that is both uncomfortable and entertaining in its use of dark humour and commentary on social issues. Vivid (sometimes gruesome) details and smooth transitions between current and past events also enhance the story and keep it engaging.

THE FOXGLOVE KING by Hannah Whitten
Through vivid details, an impressive world rich with magic, religion and politics is gradually established. However, I struggled with the disorientating way the complex worldbuilding is presented and the constant information dumps.
