The beautiful cover art captures the vision of this collection to showcase fantasy and science fiction tales from African authors.
If you could have the power to become anyone you choose, would you stay yourself?
Writing:
3.5/5
An impressive array of settings filled with various technologies, magic, and creatures are established across this collection. However, I found it challenging to fully grasp and immerse myself in some of the creative concepts and writing styles.
Content:
3.5/5
The thirty-two stories, which range from uplifting to dark, painful tales, are incredibly diverse and vary considerably in themes, worldbuilding, and length. However, the collection felt a bit long, especially as most of my favourites (IRL, The Deification of Igodo, Mami Wataworks, Rear Mirror and The Lady of the Yellow-Painted Library) were in the first half of the book.
You can’t play with fire without getting burned.
Narration & Audio:
3/5
The cast of narrators varied in their ability to enrich their assigned stories. Some were terrific at conveying the depth of emotions and nuances in the stories, while others seemed uninteresting.
